Facing 4th District Issues

While each community within Kern County's Fourth District is faced with its own unique opportunities and challenges, Cliff Thompson believes there are some issues each community has in common.

Roads
Cliff believes road improvements, especially on the arties in and out of Bakersfield, should be a priority. An example of just how bad our roads are is Highway 119. An average of over 1800 vehicles travel from Bakersfield to Taft during the hours of 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM every weekday add to that the 300 Plus students traveling west to Taft college during the week. That’s a lot of Bakersfield residents traveling to Taft.  They are traveling the most dangerous highway in Kern County (eight deaths) this year alone. Cliff worked with Cal-trans, CHP, Kern Cog and our state legislators to increase patrols and form a 119 traffic safety committee. This will in the short-term help to make 119 safer. Through out this process the current supervisor has promised funding to help on 119-- to date we have seen nothing.

Air Quality
Air Quality in Kern County is horrible. The mega dairies have passed automobiles as the number one polluter and we must do something about it. How many of you have a family member of know a family with some type of respiratory related health issue. Cliff guess is quite a few. As your fourth district supervisor, he will pledge to make every effort to reduce the pollution in Kern County.

Public Safety
Public safety has always been a passion for Cliff. As a council member in Taft, he led the crusade to hire more officers, pay them a competitive salary and supply them with the equipment necessary to keep our community safe. Cliff is proud to say that his efforts have paid off. The turnstile of officers moving through Taft has stopped and Taft is a safer place to live. As fourth district supervisor, Cliff will use lessons learned in Taft to support and enhance public safety in Kern County.

Although many other issues may arise, Cliff Thompson is committed to making these his priority.
